Quagmire (2001)

This project originated in a muliple participants sound installation about little creeping animals. It is the first collaboration with Cem Akkan whom I got to know in a philharmonic concert as he was sitting next to me in the audience. This became one of the nicest friendships “by chance” and we immediately realized how well we could work in a team.

«Quagmire» was constructed using a ping-pong principle (I was working on the sounds for a while, then Cem was taking them, re-arranging them etc.). Though only stereo, the setup was really spatial because of the listener standing on top of one speaker, the other speakers being placed above his/her head.

The installation was shown on Alexanderplatz and the campus of the Technical University, Berlin.
